Girona, in the face of adversity: 7 comebacks in 21 games that keep them leader of the League

“What my players are doing is historic and brutal,” Míchel acknowledged at a press conference after coming back against Sevilla last Sunday in Montilivi (5-1). It is not for less. Girona continues as provisional leader in the League thanks to the victory against Seville and thus surpasses the club's highest score in a season in First Division: 52 points, one more than in 2018.

It is not the first time that the people from Girona have turned the score around so far this season to end up taking the three points. Against the Andalusians, it was the seventh time they did the same in the national championship. Míchel's team does not mind rolling up their sleeves and putting on their overalls in the face of adversity.

22 of the 52 figures that Girona has accumulated to date come from equalizing or overturning a result against. On the first day, the Catalan team tied at the Reale Arena against Real Sociedad, after Take Kubo ahead of Imanol Alguacil's team in the first instance (1-1).

Dovbyk would put the final draw against the txuri-urdin and make his team take a point from San Sebastián towards Montilivi. From then on, Míchel's team has always come back in a league game when they have been down on the scoreboard, with the exception of their defeat against Real Madrid (0-3).

They achieved it against Mallorca (5-3), Villarreal (1-2), Almería (5-2), Osasuna (2-4), Rayo (1-2), Valencia (2-1) and also against Sevilla just a day ago. However, the duel against Jagoba Arrasate presents a peculiarity: Girona started winning, unlike the rest of the matches.

A double from Budimir provisionally distorted Iván Martín's initial goal. Despite this, Dobvyk, Tsygankov and Aleix García each scored a goal that marked the final 2-4 in El Sadar and a new victory for Míchel's team.

However, Girona not only comes back in the League, they also do so in the Copa del Rey. The people from Girona found themselves momentarily down 2-1 during the second knockout round of the K.O competition against Orihuela. But Stuani, Portu and Valery made Pablo Torre's initial goal count (7') at the Municipal de Los Arcos stadium (2-5).

Artem Dovbyk has a pivotal importance in Girona's successes. The Ukrainian striker paved the way for the comeback in the last round of the league against Sevilla, scoring a hat-trick in less than 10 minutes.

Thus, he is now at the top of the rankings as the top scorer in the domestic championship. Only Bellingham has as many goals as him so far in the tournament. Within the Girona team, the second highest scorer is Stuani with seven goals, although Savinho is close behind him with 5.
