Five El Prat employees arrested for bringing people into Spain illegally

The National Police has arrested a criminal group of five people at the Barcelona Airport that allegedly brought people into Spain irregularly.

In a statement this Friday, they explained that the detainees were workers in the international or transit zone - the zone where travelers from foreign flights and connecting with another flight stay.

The people who intended to enter Spain "were aware that they did not meet the entry requirements to do so", such as possessing a valid visa, and they contacted the criminal group to, in exchange for significant amounts of money, be able to avoid controls and enter the country.

The detainees allegedly provided employee cards and uniforms to the migrants so that they could pretend that they were airport workers and, thus, leave for the international or transit zone "without carrying out border controls." The members of the group "even accompanied them through corridors and interior rooms with access restricted to workers."

The agents arrested the leaders of the group, who were a romantic couple and were in charge of a restaurant establishment that was more than 10 years old. After an investigation, the National Police arrested the rest of the members of the group and made 22 charges.
