Fernando Gómez-Acebo y Borbón, cousin of King Felipe, dies

Fernando Gómez-Acebo y Borbón, cousin of King Felipe, dies

The youngest son of Infanta María Pilar de Borbón and Luis Gómez-Acebo, a member of a family of the economic aristocracy (his grandfather founded the Banco Español de Crédito), Fernando Gómez-Acebo y Borbón, alias 'Coco', has died this year. Friday in Madrid at the age of 49, he died suddenly after his well-known fight against chronic respiratory failure, which has worsened in recent months, as announced by Vanitatis and confirmed by RTVE by family sources.

Pilar and Luis Gómez-Acedo had five children: María Fátima Simoneta (1968), Juan Filiberto Nicolás (1969), Bruno (1971), Luis Beltrán (1973) and Fernando Humberto (1974).

Fernando Gómez-Acebo y Borbón, is the nephew of Don Juan Carlos I and cousin of King Felipe and the Infantas Cristina and Elena. He had a son, Juan Nicolás, 8 years old, from his second marriage to the Greek billionaire Nadia Halamandari.

As reported by the Debate, the King was in the hospital as soon as he was informed of the death of his cousin. The body will be laid to rest this Saturday at the Tres Cantos funeral home, Madrid, which will be open for family and friends to say goodbye to the deceased.
