Until now, only Daniel Sirera had confirmed that he met with Junts leaders to talk, not negotiate, about the political situation after the July general elections, in which the sum of PP and Vox was on the verge of an absolute majority. an unexpected result that led Alberto Núñez Feijóo to explore the possibilities of an investiture with the support of the former Catalan nationalists.
But it had always been considered that that coffee of the PP councilor in Barcelona with Albert Batet and Josep Rius, spokespersons for Junts, in a hotel in the Catalan capital was not the only meeting between Feijóo's emissaries and the negotiators appointed by Carles Puigdemont since Belgium.
And this was confirmed by Feijóo himself in an interview published this Monday in the digital OK Diario, in which, expressly asked about the role of González Pons, who has been an MEP and, therefore, in some way is aware of the movements of the former president in Brussels, has responded: "I have no reason to deny to you that colleagues, not just the one you are referring to, have spoken with Junts."
In any case, the president of the PP insists on the argument that his party has reiterated since La Vanguardia revealed Sirera's meeting with Batet and Rius and emphasizes that negotiating is not talking, and that the meetings that took place were limited to the latter. without even coming close to the first: "Otherwise, how can we find out what they are asking for?" has been the justification.
These statements coincide with the start of the pre-campaign for the Catalan elections on May 12, for which the PP has not yet confirmed Alejandro Fernández, who has been seen in recent months by an open challenge to Genoa as a result of his Frontal opposition to any type of approach to Junts, as a candidate.
In this context, Feijóo has entered the pre-electoral debate today, putting the three main Catalan political forces in the same bag: “Catalonia must accept that stopping the process requires not trusting the PSC, ERC, or Junts, which are three legs of the same project of institutional rupture,” he noted in a tribute to Eugenio Nasarre, in which he agreed with Mariano Rajoy.
In this event held in Madrid, just before Feijóo left for Valencia to participate in the mascletà, the leader of the PP praised the career of the recently deceased politician, whom he put as an example of the spirit of reconciliation of the transition, and has reiterated his rejection of the amnesty: "No government can take over the State to put up for auction its integrity, its legal security or the equality before the law of its citizens," he declared.
