Farmers from Huelva give away 2,000 tubs of strawberries in Puerta del Sol

The Union of Small Farmers and Ranchers (UPA) will distribute 2,000 tubs of strawberries from Huelva this Tuesday at Puerta del Sol in Madrid.

This initiative, which takes place from 10:30 a.m., is part of the campaign that this entity has launched with the motto 'I eat strawberries from Huelva because they are healthy, safe and sustainable'.

The campaign comes after the controversy that was created last week after the EU Rapid Food Alert System (Rasff, in English) launched an alert due to the arrival in Spain of a batch of strawberries with hepatitis A from Morocco.

The Andalusian Government reported that 1,500 kilos of strawberries with hepatitis specifically entered through the port of Algeciras (Cádiz) on February 19, but that they did not reach the consumer because they were not put on the market.

As a result of this fact, agricultural employers have reinforced their demands to the authorities to increase controls on food entering the EU from third countries.
