Farewell to Nelson Mandela, the man who liberated black South Africa

The former South African president, Nelson Mandela, dies at his home in Johannesburg, South Africa, at the age of 95 after doctors allowed him to go out with his family after being hospitalized on several occasions since last July for the repeated complications caused by respiratory failure. Hero of the fight against apartheid, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1993 and elected the first black president of South Africa in 1994, nineteen years after assuming the presidency of South Africa, death surprises the black leader at the age of 95.

Lung problems due to his prolonged stay in prison ended his life. The South African people mourn inconsolably the loss of a man who knew how to live up to the history in which he was the protagonist.

"'Death is inevitable. When a man has done what he considers his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe that I have made that effort and that, therefore, I will sleep for all eternity." (Nelson Mandela, 1996).
