Europe grants 27 million euros to adapt the track change between Vandellòs and Castelló

The European Commission has granted 27 million euros to the construction project for the implementation of UIC standard gauge on a 150 kilometer railway section (equivalent to double track) between Castellón and Vandellòs.

Europe grants 27 million euros to adapt the track change between Vandellòs and Castelló

The European Commission has granted 27 million euros to the construction project for the implementation of UIC standard gauge on a 150 kilometer railway section (equivalent to double track) between Castellón and Vandellòs. In its resolution, the EC alleges that the main benefit of the project will be to contribute to the deployment of the European gauge network in Spain, and will also be key in the execution of the Mediterranean corridor.

The communication was made known this Thursday, and together with the project coordinated by Adif there are another 107 transport infrastructure projects that will receive a total of more than 6,000 million euros in subsidies from the European Union from the Connecting Europe Mechanism (MCE), the instrument of the European Union for strategic investment in transport infrastructure.

The connection between Vandellòs and Castelló is essential for the development of the Mediterranean corridor as a strategic axis for the promotion of rail transport and the socioeconomic development of the Mediterranean arc and its area of ​​influence. More than two years ago now, Adif began the works to adapt the track of this section to standard gauge -for an amount of more than 81 million euros.

In addition to the Mediterranean project presented by Adif, there are five other Spaniards who will also receive European aid. The On-shore power supply design and deployment project of the port of Algeciras will receive 6,705.386 million euros; the intermodal platform of the port of Huelva a total of 7,386,517 million; another 4,957,692 million will go to the construction project of a safe and secure parking area with 415 lots in the Mediterranean corridor along the Murcia-Almería section and finally the Zaragoza maritime terminal will receive 1,805,491 million.
