ERC presents Aragonès as "the rival to beat" in the parliamentary elections

It is the first time that Esquerra participates in a Catalan election being in charge of both all the Government portfolios and the presidency of the Generalitat. For this reason. The Republicans consider that, without having the label of favorites, Pere Aragonès is the "rival to beat."

"We know that Aragonès is the rival to beat on the part of those who want nothing to change and who continue to defend the model of the Spanish State, and also on the part of those who defend the privileges of a few," said Raquel Sans this afternoon, ERC spokesperson, with this statement that also shows that Oriol Junqueras's men are going to focus their pre-campaign attacks on the PSC and Junts.

So great is the conviction that the president of the Generalitat is going to be the target of all the targets, that Sans has shown herself certain that the polls already published and those to come will be biased. "There will be publications in all senses, some interested, because Aragonès is the rival to beat," the spokesperson insisted. Today two polls place ERC below the PSC and Junts. "We are going to give relative importance to the polls," she confirmed. "Everyone will use all the tools to beat Aragonès," she added shortly after.

Tomorrow the republican formation meets in the national council to give approval to the primary process for the Catalan elections on May 12. Number one from each of the four constituencies will be the first names to be known. After them will follow the process of making the lists.

ERC faces the moment with courage. "We are very convinced of the work we have done; from honesty, to transform the country and that has led us to the lowest unemployment rate in the last 16 years, below 9%," Sans stressed by way of example.

The elections will have a clear protagonist: Carles Puigdemont. The former president will announce on Thursday that he will present himself as a candidate for JxCat. He was already number one on the list in 2017 and in 2021 and it is very likely that his name will appear on the ballots again. In any case, Sans has asserted that ERC is happy that Puigdemont can appear "with complete normality" thanks to an Amnesty law that will possibly cause his disqualification to be annulled. "We want to confront Mr. Illa and we want to confront Mr. Puigdemont," remarked the Esquerra spokesperson.
