ERC pays tribute to councilor Marina Gassol

Today, Tuesday, the ERC headquarters in Barcelona will be named after councilor Marina Gassol. The councilor died a year ago, a victim of a severe illness that she always wanted to handle very discreetly.

Fellow members of the party, representatives of other parties and a few neighbors paid him a small but heartfelt tribute on Monday afternoon at the Republican headquarters in the Ciutat Vella district.

In addition, Esquerra will annually announce the Marina Gassol awards for neighborhood struggle and will ask at the next district plenary session that a space in El Borsí also bear her name.

In reality, his political career itself was very brief. He appeared on the Republican lists two elections ago in position number 11 on the ERC list. He entered the City Council with the mandate already underway after the resignation of Maria Bohigas.

And Gassol was forged in neighborhood activism. Born in the Sant Antoni neighborhood, raised in the Raval and later a resident of the Barri Gòtic, mother of a couple of children, worker for the Generalitat, she was for many years president of the association of relatives of students of the then only school Gothic public, the Àngel Baixeras.

Gassol fought hard for this educational center to have a patio. He also became very involved in the fight against drug trafficking after this scourge crossed the Rambla. He was also part of several neighborhood platforms in the Ciutat Vella district.
