The Serbian Novak Djokovic beat the Russian Andrey Rublev this Wednesday in two sets, 6-4 and 6-4, and sealed his passport to the semifinals of the Masters Cup that is held in Turin (Italy), in which he already Spanish Rafael Nadal was eliminated.
Djokovic only had one option to qualify for the semifinals directly after his match, without depending on another result, and that was by winning in two sets against a Rublev who already gave a surprise two days ago by knocking down his compatriot Daniil Medvedev.
The Russian belongs to the school of new tennis players who have a hammer for an arm and who are very difficult to subtract. But Djokovic knows no rival on hard and indoor courts, where he has historically left a high level of tennis, and ended up making his opponent desperate, who will play his pass to the semifinals against another champion like the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas next Friday.
The match began quite evenly, both arrived with the confidence that a victory gives -Djokovic won it against the Greek-, and they did not give in the slightest during the start of a set in which both tennis players left a mark of their quality with points that started the applause from the Pala Alpitour where this tournament that closes the season is held.
It wasn't until the end of this first stake when Novak found an opportunity that he did not miss with a 'break' point that decided the set in his favor and that made Rublev desperate, who ended up throwing away the racket and hitting a ball against the ground, looking at his bench in search of the support of his coach, the Spanish Fernando Vicente.
The dynamics did not change in the second set and Djokovic put his victory on track with another break that put him 3-0 up. Totally outmatched, out of the match, Rublev gave up his third serve and said goodbye to the match.
Djokovic reaches the semifinals at the moment undefeated, although he still has to play his last match in the group stage, against Daniil Medvedev, and aims to get his sixth win, which would equal the Swiss Roger Federer at the top.
