There are curious springs of fresh water very close to Amposta, in the region of Montsià, in the Ebro Delta area. It is known as the Ullals (fangs) of Baltasar, where we find a rich native flora and fauna.
The Ullals de Baltasar are "freshwater springs surrounded by eucalyptus trees that make up a unique landscape", according to Turisme de Amposta.
It is an area of permanent continental fresh water springs, formed from the rain that falls in the Montsià mountain ranges, the Els Ports massif and the Boix-Cardó mountain range.
Together, they form a unique landscape, surrounded by eucalyptus trees and rice fields, located between Amposta and Sant Carles de la Ràpita. Among the fauna, we find turtles, birds, frogs. And, among the flora, there are water lilies.
Since 2009, the Ebro Delta Natural Park acquired the Ullals de Baltasar estate where there are fifty formations of permanent water springs of various diameters, with depths ranging between 0.5 and 9 meters.
