Demetrio Carceller, President of Damm, Entrepreneur of the Year from the Spain-USA Chamber.

Throughout his career he has developed a business sensibility in line with innovations and a conviction: "We make the best beer in the world, I have no doubt".

Demetrio Carceller Arce, executive president of the Damm group of food and beverage companies (the historic Barcelona brewery) and president of the DISA energy company, received the distinction of business leader of the year awarded by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night in New York -USA.

The gala was held at the historic Metropolitan Club, in Manhattan, with the participation of more than 200 representatives of politics, business and finance from the United States and Spain. Among the institutional charges were the Consul General of Spain in New York, Caridad Batalla, and the former American ambassador and president of the Chamber, Alan Solomont.

The institution recognized Carceller Arce, 60, for being "a transformational leader who, through investment in talent, technology and innovation, and international expansion, has promoted the transformation of the companies he runs and has turned them into leaders." .

After going through other companies and developing a master's degree at the business school of Duke University (North Carolina), Carceller Arce came to Damm in 1992 as a director. In 1994 he was named president.

Since then, this society has expanded and has 16 breweries and a staff of 5,000 workers. To these are added many others in DISA.

Solomont highlighted the honoree's commitment to "the circular economy and the environment, which make him an example to follow in the field of corporate social responsibility."

In his thanks, Carceller Arce stressed the deep mark his experience at Duke left on him. “Here I learned the love of risk. In the United States, the one who fails is the one who does not try, ”he explained in a conversation.

Among its challenges are digitization and sustainability. “They are not departments – he clarified – but a vital attitude in which everyone must participate”.
