Dalí's Port Lligat Christ carpet

This Holy Week you can visit the Crist of Port Lligat carpet by Salvador Dalí, which we see in these photographs in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

This work is made in front of the baptistery of the church of Sant Pere in Figueres where, behind it, I have my large-format 3X5 meter painting The Landscape of the Baptism of Jesus.

The carpet has been made by the Federation of Catifaires of Catalonia with the Association of Friends of Sant Pere, who are working to get the carpets of Corpus to obtain the declaration of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, by Unesco.

The work of Crist de Port Lligat responds to when Dalí was in the midst of reformulating his thoughts. Mysticism and religion are added to his interest in the structure of atoms, the disintegration and discontinuity of matter.

The church of Sant Pere is of Romanesque origin, but it is mostly Gothic in style. It is included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia and protected as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest.
