Costas begins to remove the remains of old buildings from Badalona beach

Next Monday, April 15, work will begin to remove the remains of old buildings that are found in the sand of the Pont d'en Botifarreta beach in Badalona (Barcelonès Nord). These remains, which are from some old baths, were exposed due to the loss of sand caused by the storms that have affected the city's coastline.

The Coastal Demarcation of Catalonia of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge will be in charge of executing this action, which is within its jurisdiction, at the request of the Badalona City Council. The work will last all week.

Last week, the mayor of Badalona addressed the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area to request an urgent three-way meeting to discuss the necessary actions on the city's beaches and their calendar. Garcia Albiol thanked the Ministry for the action planned on the Pont d'en Botifarreta beach for next week, one of the requests of the Badalona City Council.

"Given the situation on our coast, it is essential that we work together so that the beaches of Badalona are ready for the bathing season," said Garcia Albiol. However, the mayor has reiterated the need for urgent sand regeneration action for the summer season and other longer-term measures. "Providing sand as soon as possible is essential so that the residents of Badalona can enjoy the beach normally next summer, and also to guarantee accessible bathing," the mayor recalled.
