Controversy between the mayor of Elx and the subdelegate of the Government about security

As happened a few weeks ago with the Alicante City Council, in that case through the Security Councilor, the Alicante Government Subdelegation has been involved today in a controversy generated by a local authority, in this case, the mayor of Elx , Pablo Ruz (PP).

Subdelegate Juan Antonio Nieves has regretted that Ruz "uses security with partisan interests and generates conflicts, instead of looking for solutions," and has urged him to convene the Local Security Board when the participants can attend.

Ruz announced this Wednesday the urgent call for this Friday of the Local Security Board to "make a real diagnosis of the situation in the municipality regarding drug trafficking and put immediate solutions on the table," as he explained.

In this regard, the Government subdelegate has indicated that "if the mayor of Elx was interested in seeking solutions and not in provoking conflicts, he would not have called a Security Board knowing in advance that neither the person in charge of the National Police in Elx, nor the subdelegate himself could attend.”

According to sources from the Government Subdelegation, "the Elx City Council decided, unilaterally, to convene a Security Meeting with only 48 hours in advance and without consensus with those attending on the day of its celebration."

"Alternative dates were proposed from the Government Subdelegation with the intention of making it easier for all those involved to attend. However, the City Council flatly refused to make any change of date," they stated.

Nieves has stated that "if a mayor truly intends to seek solutions for his municipality, he makes sure to organize a meeting with all those involved, the opposite is seeking confrontation and political gain, and citizens need solutions to their problems, not sterile policies that only seek to create social alarm," he stressed.

"That is what Ruz causes by insisting on calling a meeting, without justifying its urgency and without the assistance of the relevant people. I ask him to reflect and agree to call a meeting with those involved present, a meeting that truly meets its objective. ", reiterated the subdelegate.

Nieves, who has highlighted the work carried out by the National Police, recalled that from the Government Subdelegation "there has always been, and will be, a willingness to meet the security needs of any municipality, but with seriousness and good will. everywhere."

"Precisely, today it has been made public that the National Police has dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking" that has allowed "the arrest in Elx of six people and the seizure of a wide variety of narcotic substances," he explained.

In response to Nieves' demonstrations, the mayor said that they were "very surprised by the statements of the subdelegate of the Sánchez Government in the province of Alicante" and maintained that the security board "is convened because the law itself contemplates that the Mayor of Elche, faced with a circumstance denounced by the neighbors, has the power and the right" to call it.

"What seems unspeakable and very strange to us is that the subdelegate of the Government has other more important things to do, instead of coming to this security meeting urgently called for tomorrow, yesterday," Ruz stressed.

And he explained: "The situation of drug trafficking worries and concerns us all, this mayor, of course. And it not only worries us as a (municipal) government, but also the residents of some environments, of some districts. municipal; that's why the speed, that's why the forcefulness because we want to tackle the problem at its roots.

"Look at what has happened in Barbate. We are a responsible government and we are going to put all the conditions and all the means to prevent this from happening in Elche. And we hope that the deputy delegate of the Government, by the way, from Elche, the Mr. deputy delegate of the Government of Pedro Sánchez, attend this meeting tomorrow, for the good of all,” the mayor remarked.

In a press release, the Elx City Council points out that "it maintains for tomorrow, Friday, the call of the extraordinary Local Security Board convened on Wednesday in a timely manner," and adds: "A letter has been sent from the council to the Subdelegation of the Government regretting the announced absence of the subdelegate of the Government of Spain".
