The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has been disapproved this Thursday by the plenary session of Congress, which has asked that he be dismissed for his management and for the death of two civil guards in Barbate (Cádiz) run over by a drug boat last day 9. The motion, promoted by the PP, has been approved after receiving 171 votes in favor, 165 against and 11 abstentions. The latter correspond to the 7 deputies from Junts and the 4 from Podemos.
In the debate on the motion, which took place this Wednesday, the PP spokesperson, Miguel Tellado, defended that “the negligence of dismantling the elite unit against drug trafficking in Gibraltar”, OCON Sur, is sufficient reason to disapprove Marlaska. He linked this decision to the murder of the two civil guards in Barbate. In the debate - in which Junts did not intervene - ERC and EH Bildu recognized that they are not part of Marlaska's "fan club" and are the first to be in favor of failing him, but not for the "explained reasons."
The disapproval was included in the motion resulting from the questioning that the 'popular' party addressed to the minister last Wednesday, hours before the Senate censured him for the same reason.
That disapproval was carried out by the absolute majority of the PP - which Vox and UPN supported -, but some government partners such as ERC, Bildu and Junts and the senator from Sumar abstained.
In the statement of reasons for the initiative, those of Alberto Núñez Feijóo have demanded that the State Security Forces and Corps that fight against drug trafficking in the Campo de Gibraltar be provided with sufficient material and human resources and have denounced the "inaction and complacency" of a Government that is "incapable of meeting the demands" not only of the agents, but also of the Customs Service or the Special Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office.
The PP considers the entire management of the head of the Interior to be reprehensible and, in fact, remembers that he was already disapproved by Congress a year ago for the "disastrous" way in which he faced the crisis generated by the assault on the Melilla fence that took place. took place in July 2022 and caused the death of at least 23 immigrants.
