Civil Protection has announced that it will repeat the mobile alert test in Tarragona, the Ebre and the Penedès on the morning of June 13. The drill is repeated after, in the first attempt, on April 12, it was "failed", according to the emergency management body in a statement.
Likewise, the test of shipments in the Barcelona veguería, which includes the city of Barcelona and the southern and northern metropolitan area, and which should have been done on May 31, is postponed until it is verified that the tool, developed by the Ministry of the Interior, "it works correctly, the malfunction of the April 12 test is not repeated."
So far, three tests of the system have been carried out. The first, on February 28 in Lleida, Alt Pirineu and Aran; the second, on April 12, in the grocery stores of Tarragona, Terres de l'Ebre and Penedès, and the third, on April 27, in the grocery stores of Central Catalonia and Girona.
In the second test, on April 12, the message reached only 35% of mobile phones, according to data from the survey carried out by Civil Protection after the drill. The Generalitat called on the State, developer and administrator of the tool, to provide a solution. Shortly after the Ministry said that it had located the error and that it had been fixed.
Now, with the test on June 13, they want to verify that the second test in Tarragona, Terres de l'Ebre and Penedès is all working correctly before carrying out the larger test in terms of the affected population, which it would be that of the veguería of Barcelona.
Civil Protection considers that the system is very useful in the event of a serious emergency, since it allows a massive diffusion of specific instructions to the population in a very short space of time.
