Civil Protection has activated the External Emergency Plan for the chemical sector of Tarragona (PLASEQTA) in the alert phase due to an incident at the Repsol Química company, located in the Polígono Norte (El Morell). There has been a butadiene leak in the production line, of which the Operational Coordination Center of Catalonia (CECAT) was notified at 5:35 a.m. The company has explained that it has begun to work with the firefighters of the chemical park, that there was no injury and there was no impact outside.
Measurements have been taken of the air quality in the vicinity of the company, and the presence of the product has been detected in very low quantities, well below thresholds of impact, both for toxicity and flammability. At that moment it was decided to put PLASEQTA on alert. The leak is controlled, however the alert remains until it is resolved.
The CECAT technical committee is monitoring all the mobilized operations, while awaiting the resolution of the incident. The Generalitat Firefighters, the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Emergency Medical Service have been deployed, and the Environmental Control Group has been activated.
