With tree collection points, uncivil abandonment in public spaces is avoided and this natural resource can be used to improve the maintenance of the city's garden spaces.
Municipal cleaning services will remove the trees, and gardening services will take them to the nursery, where they are ground and left to mature to make padding for the city's green areas, in a process of two or three months. The padding improves moisture retention and soil aeration and is deposited on topsoil inside parks and gardens and in landscaped spaces.
Last year 9,526 Christmas trees were recycled in Barcelona. They became 183 cubic meters of padding, which was used in the city's green spaces throughout the first half of the year.
