Catalonia on meteorological alert due to violent weather

Civil Protection of the Generalitat de Catalunya keeps the Special Emergency Plan for Floods of Catalonia (INUNCAT) on alert due to the forecast that in the next few hours there may be heavy rains that will last until dawn and on Friday afternoon they are expected to the northeast quadrant.

Today Thursday, the most intense rains and accompanied by violent weather (strong wind and hail) have affected above all the regions of Central Catalonia, Vallès Occidental, Maresme and also the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees regions.

According to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat), the next few hours could also be complicated with extensive showers accompanied by storms that could unload with torrential intensity and accompanied by stones.

Regarding the incidents registered by the storms this afternoon, the Agència Catalana de l'Aigua (ACA) has reported different growths of rivers and streams in the Bages region and also of the Llobregat in Castellbisbal up to its mouth.

In Sant Salvador de Guardiola, 125.9 liters/m2 have accumulated; in Vacarisses 59.9; and in Rellinars 46.9, always in the province of Barcelona.

Up to 8:00 p.m., the 112 emergency telephone number has received almost a hundred calls for incidents related to the waterspouts.

Most of the 98 calls (which have generated 55 files) have been from the Barcelona regions of Bages (57 calls), Maresme (19 calls) and Vallès Occidental (14 calls).

According to the Catalan Traffic Service, this afternoon they had to cut off traffic on the C-55 in Castellgalí (Bages) due to heavy rain, but it reopened around 6:00 p.m.

At the moment, only the C-37 in Sant Salvador de Guardiola remains closed in both directions due to landslides and traffic is diverted onto the C-37z.

The Generalitat Fire Brigade have received, since 2:00 p.m., 60 notices for services related to the storm, the vast majority in Bages and mainly due to flooding in premises and homes.

Civil Protection recalls that in the face of these episodes of storms and rain, extreme caution must be exercised, especially in activities in rivers, streams, torrents and their surroundings and stay away from low points, fords and flood areas.
