Catalan theaters are close to the 2012 record

Three million viewers are close. This is the magic figure that the Catalan theaters recorded in the 2011-2012 season. With an audience increase of 17% compared to the previous season, the 2,789,751 viewers for the 2022-2023 season are very encouraging data, which is close to the mythical figure.

Where a record has been broken is in collection: 84,899,466 euros, which represents an increase of 28% over the 2021-2022 season, still in recovery after the pandemic.

The overall winner, who seems to have done some sleight of hand to distance himself so far from second place, is Mago Pop. With 219,726 spectators at his Victòria theatre, the international artist breaks audience records.

The next four shows are Improshow, at the Teatreneu (85,629). They are followed by two musicals: Grease, at the Tivoli (75,699), and Pretty Woman, at the Apolo (56,553); and closing the honor roll is the adaptation of the novel La trena, directed by Clara Segura at the Goya (46,577).

The occupancy of the stalls has stood at 60%, which also represents an increase of 11% compared to the previous season. 1,072 shows have been represented, offering 12,503 performances. January was the best theater month, with 375,711 viewers.

Regarding the origin of the productions, 66% are Catalan, 20% from the rest of Spain and 14% international. And as regards the authors, 576 are Catalan (54%), 215 from the rest of Spain (20%) and 281 international (26%). 43% of the shows have been in Catalan (457), 30% in Spanish (317) and 28% in other languages ​​(298).

By genre, the first place is occupied by dramatic shows (44%), which are also the ones with the highest number of viewers: 1,260,736 (45%). In second place, the public chooses the musicals, in third place the musical and lyrical shows, followed by dance and music.
