Captured the monkey that was loose since Monday in La Línea de la Concepción

The monkey that was loose in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz) since Monday was captured this Tuesday after being hit with tranquilizer darts by the Gibraltar technicians deployed to the municipality.

Sources close to the case have reported that the animal has been reached in the Zabal area of the aforementioned Cadiz town after a complex device had to be established to try to capture it that included the use of drones to track it. Now, the macaque will go back to Gibraltar.

Agents from the La Línea Police Station have monitored the movements of the animal with drones, in addition to facilitating access across the border for Gibraltar technicians and veterinarians with the necessary equipment for its capture and subsequent care. This is an adult male Barbary macaque ('Macaca sylvanus'), the species to which the colony that lives in Gibraltar, as well as North Africa, belongs.

The Local Police of La Línea, which has collaborated in the tasks of tracking and capturing the animal, indicated this Monday that they are investigating whether the monkey crossed the border on its own or was transported illegally to the city.

Yesterday his presence was detected when he remained during the morning on the roofs of two secondary schools and, later, he moved to residential buildings, some of which he tried to access through the window, without success. The monkey continued moving across rooftops and rooftops without being able to be captured, and on Tuesday he was tracked through the neighborhoods of San Bernardo and La Atunara.

In addition to the Local Police, the National Police and technicians from Gibraltar, on Monday the Civil Guard and technicians from the Castellar de la Frontera Zoo (Cádiz) participated in the device, as an authorized center for animals from International Trade in Endangered Species ( CITES).
