Britney Spears finally reveals why she shaved her head in 2007: "It was my way of fighting back"

Britney Spears has millions of anecdotes to tell. Since her father Jamie took over her guardianship in 2008, the American singer has suffered what many of her followers described as a true hell. Her judicial release in 2021 ended thirteen years in the shadows, many details of which have appeared in her biography, The Woman in Me. However, there are also revelations about other events that went around the world.

One of them is the controversial image of the artist with a shaved head, a year before the tutelage. Spears says in the book, on sale in the United States on October 24, that this viral moment was a response to people's reactions to her body. In her words, throughout her career she had been judged by her appearance, whether in her daily life or in her video clips. Therefore, she chose to respond in a very disruptive way.

“I had been watched a lot growing up. They looked me up and down, people told me what they thought about my body, since I was a teenager. Shaving my head and behaving badly were my ways of fighting back,” stated an excerpt from the biography, published this Tuesday by People magazine. The situation changed radically after the custody was implemented, when Spears felt that she was losing her freedoms.

“They wanted to make me understand that those days were over. I had to grow my hair back and get in shape. I had to go to bed early and take the medication they ordered me to take,” the singer added in the publication. “Tutoring took away my womanhood, it turned me into a girl. I became more of an entity than a person on stage. “I always felt music in my bones and blood, and they took it from me,” she added.

The famous shaved head incident took place in 2007, in the midst of several stages of rehabilitation for the American, a visit to a California hair salon became a viral scene for the media. Britney went to Esther's Haircutting Studio in the town of Tarzana, and asked the person in charge of the establishment to shave her head. By refusing, the singer took justice into her own hands, literally.

It is not the only compromising situation Spears has faced in recent months. One of her latest controversies was a dance with knives that she said was inspired by Shakira: “These are fake knives that my team had rented from the Hand Prop store in Los Angeles. They don't really cut. No one needs to worry let alone call the police. "I'm just trying to imitate one of my favorite artists, Shakira... An inspiring performance."
