Basque elections 2024: These are the 14 candidates that will compete in April

In addition to the seven formations with the possibility of obtaining representation in the Basque Parliament, in the elections on April 21, from which the next Lehendakari will emerge, as many other formations are presented, bringing a total of 14 candidates, according to the Bulletin Official of the Basque Country.

Specifically, up to 13 candidates are presented for Bizkaia, while 11 are presented in Gipuzkoa and Álava. However, the Ongi Etorri formation is only presented in Álava, while the Communist Workers' Party of Spain and the Humanist Party are only presented. presented in Bizkaia, and, finally, the Izan candidacy is presented only in Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa.

Thus, seven parties are taking part in the elections that, according to polls, have a chance of achieving representation in the Basque Parliament. These are PNV, EH Bildu, PSE, PP, Podemos, Sumar and Vox, although it is not clear that these last three formations will gain parliamentarians.

Among the absences, the most notable is that of Ciudadanos, which four years ago was presented in coalition with the PP.

In addition, seven other political formations are running for the elections on April 21. This is For a Fairer World (PM J); Blank Seats/Aulku Zuriak; Animalist Party with the Environment (PACMA); Humanist Party; Communist Workers Party of Spain; Izan; and Ongi Etorri.

Most of these seven parties are relatively well-known because they regularly run in elections throughout Spain. In fact, formations such as the Humanist Party or the Communist Workers' Party of Spain turn 40 years old this year.

The parties For a Fairer World, Blank Seats and PACMA, meanwhile, were born in the first years of this century, and in the case of the animalist party, it is the extra-parliamentary party with the most support in Spain, after In the month of July they achieved 165,700 votes (in 2019 they had achieved up to 228,856).

The most unknown candidacy is perhaps that of Izan (Izan Auzokrazia), a formation “contrary to globalism and the 2030 Agenda” that advocates “creating laws and rules at the local level” to “combat globalism”.

Ongi Etorri (means welcome), finally, is a formation promoted by SOS Racismo that demands that "the right to vote for everyone is made visible in the current electoral campaign" and advocates the repeal of the Immigration Law, the immediate closure of the CIES or an Unconditional Basic Income.
