Barcelona will create a license to put order among cannabis candy stores

The government of Mayor Jaume Collboni and Junts agreed at the last plenum of the Ciutat Vella district to create a specific license for the opening of cannabis-derived shops.

This is truly an insistent demand from the merchants' association of the Gòtic neighborhood of Barnacentre, which for years has been denouncing that the majority of establishments of this type open with florist or gift shop licenses. And that this lack of control on the part of the administration is not only giving rise to the opening of cannabis derivative stores without psychoactive properties, but is also leading to the proliferation of many stores that offer apparent trinkets made with cannabis derivatives whose consumption It is similar to smoking a lifelong joint. These products, however, are presented, for example, with a gummy appearance and a lemon-lime flavor. Furthermore, Barnacentre emphasizes that its sale contravenes European regulations on food.

At the moment Barcelona has more than 250 stores of this type. Most of them specialize in these trinkets, and are concentrated in Ciutat Vella. Tourists abound among its clients. On La Rambla there are already seven establishments selling cannabis products, and only one focuses on products without psychoactive properties, the rest specialize in sweets.

The Junts proposal accepted by the Collboni government also contemplates preparing a census of these businesses, as well as increasing inspections and closing those that do not comply with the rules. The truth is that at least until now the inspections have not been very abundant, since they require the intervention of officials from different areas.
