Barcelona hosts the first Labor Congress until April 26

The first Catalan Work Congress will feature 50 expert, professional and academic speakers from the field of work and will be held at the Barcelona International Convention Center (CCIB).

The President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, will be in charge of inaugurating the congress this Monday, April 24, and the Minister of Business and Labor, Roger Torrent, will close the event in a closing ceremony on April 26.

The congress aims to be a meeting point for academic, social, political and economic leaders, with the aim of "promoting the exchange of experiences and creating synergies on the world of work and future policies". In order to attend, registrations can be made free of charge on the congress website, which is presented under the slogan 'Work in a new economy for life'.

The American sociologist, economist, writer, political adviser and activist, Jeremy Rifkin, will give a keynote speech during the opening ceremony and Daniel Susskind, Professor of Economics at King's College London and Associate Researcher at the University of Oxford, will do so. at the closing ceremony.

The event will have the advice of a multidisciplinary scientific committee that will moderate the different round tables that will take place during the congress and in which the "most representative" social agents of Catalonia will participate, such as Seat, Bank of Spain, Abacus Cooperativa, Suara Cooperativa, Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) among others.

This committee is made up of the former Minister of Labor Dolors Bassa, the former Minister of Economy Andreu Mas-Colell, the director of ESCI-Universitat y Pompeu Fabra, Albert Carreras, and the president of the Association Economia Social Catalunya (Aescat), Guillem Llorens, among others

The round tables will focus on the different thematic blocks that will be discussed in the room: 'Past, present and future of jobs'; 'The involvement of states in the work'; 'Working conditions for a fair and diverse society' and 'The organization of working time and the debate on the working day', among others.

The event is part of the Catalan Strategy for Work 2030, which the Department of Business and Labor of the Generalitat wants to develop as an instrument to face the challenges that arise in the territory in the coming years.

This Monday will take place the round table 'Pasado, presente y futuro de los trabajos', in which the titular professor of Economic History of the Universidad Pompeu Fabra (UPF), the strategic consultant Albert Cañigueral will participate; the president of the PuntCat foundation, Genís Roca and the sociologist and full professor of the Autonomous University of Barelona (UAB), Pilar Carrasquer.

The round table 'Jobs in a social and solidarity economy' will be this Tuesday and will include interventions by the president of Abacus Cooperativa, Laia Bonastra; the sociologist and cooperative movement Ivan Miró and the founding member of the cooperative Col·lectivaT SCCL, Özgür Günes.

On Wednesday, April 26, the round table 'Just transition and sustainable development objectives' will be held, with the president of Pimec, Antoni Cañete, the general secretary of C.C.O.O de Catalunya, Javier Pachecho, the general secretary of UGT de Catalunya, Camil Ros , the president of Foment Treball, Josep Sánchez Llibre.
