Barcelona councilor Rosa Alarcón resigns for health reasons

The socialist councilor in the Barcelona City Council Rosa Alarcón (Valencia, 1964) has informed the mayor Jaume Collboni of her resignation for health reasons.

Alarcón, who in the current municipal government is the councilor for the Nou Barris district and for Commerce, Restaurants and Markets, has long suffered from Meige syndrome, a neurological disorder that causes her eyelids to droop.

"With all the pain I must inform you that I have submitted my resignation to the mayor, Jaume Collboni, for health reasons. I appreciate the mayor's support and trust over these years. Unfortunately, now I must stop my rhythm.

Through the same social network, Mayor Jaume Collboni has expressed his appreciation for what was number 8 on his electoral list in the last municipal elections and recognition for the "immense work" he has carried out.

"Dear Rosa Alarcon, your resignation touches us deeply," wrote Collboni.

"With dedication, work capacity and passion for Barcelona and its neighbourhoods, your tireless work will always be remembered and will be an example for all of us", said the mayor, who expressed his conviction that "we will continue to find ourselves working for a better city ".

Rosa Alarcón has a degree in Information Sciences from the UAB and has worked in different media as a journalist and in public and private sector communication offices (Barcelona City Council, COOB'92, Agrupació Mutua, Sabadell City Council).

Affiliated with the PSC since 1996, in the Gràcia group, she has been part of the executive of the Barcelona Federation, has been a member of the Federation Council and the National Council and has held various positions in the party.

In the past term, in which BComú and PSC governed in coalition, Alarcón was councilor for the Horta-Guinardó and Mobility district.
