Barça confirms the signing of Pol Valera until 2026

Granollers confirmed this Wednesday that the center-back Pol Valera is already a new Barça player for all intents and purposes, after the Barça club has paid the termination clause of 50,000 euros to take over the services of the Catalan player until 2026.

In the same operation, Barça has loaned the young centre-back from the subsidiary Bruno Reguard to the Vallesan team until the summer of 2024. The signing of Valera, 24, and who was initially agreed for next summer, has been rushed mid-season after long-term injuries to Barcelona's two left-backs Timothey N'Guessan and Haniel Langaro.

The central defender from La Garriga (Barcelona), who will wear number 6, could make his debut this Friday at what has been his home until today, the Palau d'Esports in Granollers, in the Catalan derby of the Asobal League.

Valera is one of the players of the moment that has led Granollers to be one of the fittest teams in the ASOBAL League. His performance has catapulted him to the national team, where Jordi Ribera called him urgently to play the World Cup, after Ian Tarrafeta's injury.

The new Blaugrana player is a modern central defender who, year after year, has grown in the ranks of the Vallesan club until a European handball giant like Barcelona has noticed him. He perfectly combines the scoring facet with the organizer, standing out for his ability to know how to find the pivot. His scoring records have increased exponentially. Last season (2021-22) he scored 154 goals (5.31 per game) in the 29 league games he played.

In addition, he generates play for his teammates, being able to offer a wide range of possibilities in each two-on-two situation or after crossing with one of the full-backs. At Granollers, he has established himself as one of the team's offensive leaders, being able to manage and administer the attack at will. At the Palau Blaugrana, on the other hand, he will have to adapt to a new role in which he won't have as much freedom of movement.

Valera is not a very different player to Luka Cindric and Domen Makuc, with whom he will share the central position, although it is likely that the player from La Garriga will have more minutes on the left side, a position in which he can adapt perfectly to supply the injuries to Timothey N'Guessan and Haniel Langaro.
