Artificial intelligence needs more data

Artificial intelligence captures the interest of companies and institutions, monopolizes the headlines of the media and even raises the suspicions of the general public. However, this technology, fundamental in the fourth and fifth industrial revolutions, would have barely been able to progress without today's most precious raw material: data.

This is admitted by professionals and experts in the digital sector. One of the most authoritative voices when it comes to corroborating this point is the analyst director of the consulting firm Gartner, Peter Krensky. In his opinion, “as the adoption of machine learning continues to grow in all activities, data science evolves from prediction to more democratic and dynamic solutions.”

He recognizes that the circulation, exchange and management of such high volumes of information constantly generate “potential risks”, however, he emphasizes that the opportunities that arise are much more relevant for all types of organizations. In this context, Gartner technicians point out that storing material in the cloud (cloud computing) is crucial.

Not in vain, they estimate that in 2024 half of the implementation of new systems to facilitate automatic responses based on data will be based on the cloud, to the detriment of their own programs. For specialists, another essential concept in planning for the future is the so-called Edge AI, the branch of artificial intelligence that focuses on devices that do not need to connect to a data center to function.

The challenge in these cases is always the same: solving problems in real time. Engineers are convinced that the use of Edge A will jump from 10% in 2021 to 55% in 2025. Of course, first, companies will have to study what situation they are in. Peter Krensky highlights that initiatives like these will ensure that artificial intelligence is seen as a positive element, and not as a threat.

Choosing suppliers is one of the keys to success. The commercial, social, political and cultural environment is increasingly complex. Without reliable and correctly treated information it is impossible to close so many unknowns. 45% of executives surveyed by Gartner confess that the commotion caused by ChatGPT has driven investment in artificial intelligence.
