Applying more products than necessary in your skincare routine has consequences

Summer is approaching, the time of year when there is the most awareness about skin care and sun protection. The reason is none other than to avoid the appearance of unwanted stains and, in more serious cases, burns or even diseases. But the reality is that photoprotection should be applied all year round, and not just in the hottest seasons. The sun is always present and ultraviolet light can damage the skin from January to December.

More and more people have internalized this recommendation, but when it comes to applying it, they do not comply with it as they should. One of the medical guidelines from dermatologists that is not usually followed is reapplication, that is, reapplying photoprotection every two hours if you are going to be exposed to the sun. This is one of the key conclusions for the doctors and pharmacists that SkinCeuticals – a cosmetic brand considered an authority on antioxidants – has convened at the SkinXperts Days with the aim of allowing them to discuss the main problems they encounter in their daily lives with Sunspots.

The meeting, which took place in the Soho House in Barcelona, brought together doctors Adriana Ribé, Sara Gómez, Nuria Escoda, Andrea Combalia, Mercedes Gómez, Andrea Sansi, Verónica Sosa, Maribel Serrano, Cristina Paradelo and Cristina Villanueva; and pharmacists such as Ester Baste, Marta Tous, Pilar Barrau, Regina Petit, Josep Manel Pareja, María Pérez, Nacho Pujol, Sonia Jiménez, Mariona Anadón, Alejandra Rocha, Rosario Molina and Esther Garros. In addition, the dermatologist Marta Vilavella, from the iDermic clinic, acted as moderator of the discussion panels.

They all agree that the most common and difficult spot to treat today is melasma, hyperpigmentation that usually appears in some areas of the face such as the cheeks, forehead, upper lip... These are benign spots. , but they are very annoying for aesthetic reasons. The causes can be various – there is even talk of the emotional factor – but the main reason why they become visible is exposure to the sun.

One of the main problems that experts encounter when they receive their patients is that many want the changes to be immediate, “and that does not exist,” they warn. In some cases, they consider the option of applying some type of laser or performing an in-office treatment to speed up the process of removing the stain, but they all insist that the most important thing is to follow an appropriate cosmetic routine at home. Otherwise, the desired results will not be obtained.

And this also means buying the product recommended by the expert, because they have encountered situations in which, in a follow-up visit, the patient notes that they have not seen improvement. When asked, he admits that he has bought “a vitamin C like he told me, but cheaper.” It is normal that in these cases no improvements are seen, because this product surely does not have the correct formulation of active ingredients. It is almost as important to look at the active ingredients as their synergistic formulation.

Another very important aspect is to follow the instructions for daily life. Depending on the case, in addition to the application of photoprotector, to prevent the regrowth of melasma, the use of caps, sun hats or other accessories is also recommended to avoid direct contact with the sun. And, everyone agrees that “a 15-minute coffee in the sun on a terrace can ruin a treatment to eliminate stains that is expensive in terms of time and money.” Even so, in many cases these warnings are not taken into account.

Another of the key ideas of these SkinXperts Days is that “there is too much information and little knowledge” on social networks. A few words that they justify with examples of cases that they have experienced firsthand, with patients who go to their consultations or to pharmacies with routines with seven or eight products, most of them unnecessary or incorrect for their skin type.

Likewise, it is important to go to a dermatologist to identify the type of spot. “They may believe that it is melasma and it is really post-inflammatory pigmentation caused, for example, by hair removal,” they say. Each type of stain and skin has its specific treatment, therefore, a correct diagnosis is essential.

Filters on social networks are another of the problems they regularly deal with, because their patients come in search of having “that beautiful skin that that filter makes you” immediately, and in most cases they idealize a type of skin that does not exist and frustration occurs. In this debate, the participants agree that “luckily, there are more and more professionals with profiles on the networks.”

Taking advantage of this meeting of experts, the firm SkinCeuticals, an expert in comprehensive skin care in combination with medical aesthetic procedures, has presented Cell Cycle Catalyst, a new product that promises to be a revolution due to its characteristics: it is an indicated cellular renewal for all skin types, and is applied in any type of routine before the antioxidant or even pre-procedure.

In one week, the first results can be seen in expression lines, pores are less visible, blemishes and roughness improve, acne marks and wrinkles are reduced, enhancing luminosity and achieving better tone uniformity.

For the doctors and pharmacists gathered, this launch "is very interesting, since it can be applied to a wide range of patients: from sensitive skin to profiles with very complete routines looking for a plus or men looking for lighter textures without losing effectiveness."

With this product, SkinCeuticals reiterates its commitment to innovation in the field of integrated skin care that combines cosmetic routines with aesthetic procedures to maximize results.
