Amenábar will shoot his film about Cervantes in Ciudad de la Luz and several Valencian fortresses

The film director, screenwriter and composer Alejandro Amenábar will shoot almost all of "El Cautivo", his next film, between the provinces of Alicante - in the Castillo de Santa Bárbara, the fortress of Santa Pola, Pedreguer and the City of Light - and Valencia, specifically in Anna, Bocairent and Buñol.

In total, the film plans a nine-week shoot in the Valencian Community, six in the province of Alicante and the rest in Valencia, according to sources from the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, who have indicated that they have booked those six weeks in the City of Light, the operational center of the production.

Regarding filming, the Santa Pola fortress is scheduled to be the main location, as the team plans to stay there for four weeks. A week and a day have been reserved at the Castle of Santa Bárbara in Alicante, a day in Pedreguer and a week on the sets of Ciudad de la Luz.

The Ministry has highlighted that they have been negotiating this production for "months", which will be filmed in 2024 although pre-production began last February. The director of The Others and Tesis met with Minister Nuria Montes two weeks ago in Valencia in the company of his usual producer, Fernando Bovaira.

The Captive tells the story of when Cervantes, after being captured off the coast of Catalonia by Barbary pirates at the age of 28, was held captive for five years in Algiers waiting to be rescued and trying to escape on several occasions.

The Palacio de los Condes de Cervelló de Anna, the streets of Bocairent and the Plaza del Castillo de Buñol have been the locations selected by the production company to carry out the recordings in the province of Valencia.

The deputy for Tourism, Pedro Cuesta, has stated that this is "a great project that will greatly benefit the province of Valencia in the economic and promotional aspect, thanks to the work of projection of the territory carried out by Film Valencia in collaboration with the city councils" .
