Almeida cuts down 7 pine trees in Plaza Comendadoras for Filomena two years later

Another devastating felling of trees in the center of Madrid. The Madrid City Council, led by José Luis Martínez-Almeida, made the seven large pine trees disappear yesterday without prior notice from the Plaza Comendadoras, in the center of the capital.

Municipal workers cut them down yesterday, leaving the eastern part of Plaza Comendadoras without trees and without shade.

Two trucks took away the fallen trees and branches and in the afternoon the residents of the area watched and commented helplessly about what happened.

"Seven pine trees have been cut down for conservation, very affected and very weakened by Filomena," explains a municipal spokesperson to La Vanguardia. The same source explains that "they are going to be replaced", but does not specify an exact date. "The specimens will be replaced with seven other trees, but of leafy species, not coniferous."

Meanwhile, the opposition has denounced the action on social networks. This is the case of Rita Maestre, spokesperson for Más Madrid, in the Madrid City Council who has posted on the with the trees. We demand explanations."
