Almeida announces the creation of a boulevard between Cibeles and Puerta de Alcalá

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, announced this Wednesday at the Europe Forum the creation of a new boulevard between Plaza de Cibeles and the recently restored Puerta de Alcalá that will allow the creation of a new green area in the center of Madrid.

This was explained by the Madrid leader during the informative meeting organized by Nueva Economía Fórum in Madrid, where Almeida highlighted that the objective is that "perhaps the most significant and recognized monument in the city of Madrid, recently restored with an investment of more than two million and a half euros", shines "in all its splendor".

The first mayor of the capital predicted that in this way it can "be appreciated by Madrid residents and visitors, generating a better public space without affecting mobility conditions, and therefore establishing a boulevard that will go up from Cibeles to Puerta de Alcalá."

However, as sources from the Urban Planning Department explained to Servimedia, the project will first have to be presented, before summer, to the Landscape of Light Heritage Commission, since the works affect this UNESCO-protected area.

Likewise, he confirmed that the City Council is working on "the drafting of the project for the gazebo of Emperor Charles V to the pantheon of illustrious men", which will begin to be built "once the surface is freed from the works being carried out by the Community of Madrid in the expansion of Metro line 11".
