Actors Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness divorce after 27 years of marriage

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have announced the amicable dissolution of their marriage, ending one of the most stable couples in Hollywood.

They have been the envy and talk of the star system for almost three decades. An exemplary and stable couple who seemed immune to the gossip that always surrounded them due to their age difference and popularity. In their beginnings as a couple, she was an established actress in Australia and he was a promising young man until his portrayal of Wolverine in the X-Men saga catapulted him to world fame, turning him into a star.

"We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful and loving marriage. Our journey is now changing and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth," the couple stated in a joint statement published by the People magazine.

In the letter they noted that their family will continue to be their "highest priority" and they announced that it is the only statement they will give in this regard, which is why they asked for privacy.

Jackman, 54, and Deborra-Lee Furness, 67, have two children: Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18.

The couple met and fell in love in 1995, when they were both starring in the series "Correlli." Lee was then an established actress and Jackman a new promise.

In less than a year they got engaged and their wedding took place on April 11, 1996. Over time they became one of the most beloved couples in Hollywood, where the performer has participated in films such as the "X-Men" saga or "Wolverine immortal".

In April of this year, Jackman posted an emotional message on Instagram celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary, highlighting the "beautiful family" they had formed together and showing admiration for Lee.

"Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, nerve, bravery and loyalty are an incredible gift to me," the actor from "Les Misérables" (2012) wrote then, a film for which he was nominated for an Oscar.

Over the years the marriage also went through difficult times, such as two abortions and assisted reproduction treatments, or Jackman's skin cancer diagnosis.

In May they attended the Met Gala red carpet together and in July they went to the Wimbledon men's final.
