The Gerund company ACIN Recycling Metals has presented the only offer to buy the textile Nylstar de Blanes, in La Selva (Girona), immersed in the bankruptcy process.
As reported by the works council, the proposal is accompanied by a project that plans to generate 75 jobs and make an investment of close to 30 million euros.
The staff of the former textile company has endorsed the proposal because, although it means ending a century-old activity, it will allow the space to be reindustrialized and find ways to find a way out of the impasse in which the 36 current Nylstar workers find themselves.
The final decision will fall in the hands of the court and the bankruptcy administrator. Based in Riudarenes, ACIN recycles and recovers metals, packaging, cables or batteries, among others.
The Nylstar textile company in Blanes - the former SAFA - went into liquidation just a year ago, after months of inactivity. Since then, uncertainty has hovered over the workforce, which has been progressively reduced. Of the 80 workers who remained at the beginning of the process, 36 now remain.
In the summer, Nylstar resumed some yarn production thanks to a line of credit. Since then, under the supervision of the bankruptcy administrator, the staff has been issuing different orders (waiting to see if a purchase offer for the factory and land was formally finalized).
On January 31, the deadline set by the bankruptcy administrator for offers to be submitted for the production unit expired.
The works council, which has access to the documentation, has reported that one has been presented by ACIN Recycling Metals, based in Riudarenes (Selva).
According to its website, ACIN is dedicated to industrial recycling. Founded twelve years ago, in 2014 the company moved its headquarters from Barcelona to the Girona regions. In 2018 ACIN acquired Ferrajas y Metales Sils and purchased a 50,000 square meter plot of land in Riudarenes.
Since then, its activity has been constantly growing. ACIN Recycling Metals recycles, transforms and markets both scrap metal and non-ferrous waste (including metals, packaging, cables, batteries or components of electronic devices).
At the moment, it is unknown how high the offer that ACIN has made to buy the Nylstar textile company is. It is known, according to the committee, that the company's intention is to reconvert the old textile factory and take advantage of the land in Blanes to carry out industrial recycling activity.
The purchase proposal is also accompanied by a project that plans to generate 75 jobs and invest close to 30 million euros.
