Access to Devesa de El Saler is reopened, where the regeneration work on the beach begins

The City Council has lifted this Wednesday the preventive measures that, due to the risk of fire, prevented access to the Devesa de El Saler.

The reopening coincides with the start of the regeneration works of this beach area, since the Ministry of Ecological Transition, through the Demarcation of Coasts, will carry out the regeneration works of the southern beaches, which affect El Saler and the Garrofera.

This first action started today affects a first section of the beach of l'Arbre del Gos, so that "the bathroom will be closed as the works progress", as explained by the Councilor for Natural Spaces, Juan Carlos Caballero.

The regeneration will consist of artificially recharging the beach until it is between 40 and 70 meters wide, depending on the area, increasing protection against storms. The total volume of sand to contribute to the regeneration is approximately 3 million cubic meters, coming from the underwater bank off the coast of Sueca and Cullera, to recover the existing coast in the 1960s.

The works are carried out with an investment of more than 28 million euros from European funds, so the execution period for them must be met, set at 10 months, since, in case of non-compliance, it could mean the loss of the grant. In any case, the same sources point out that in every project, including this one in particular, there are "some dates and reservation periods" that reflect this type of situation.

The objective of the Ministry for Ecological Transition is to recover the 1965 coastline by dumping nearly three million cubic meters of sand on the beaches of L'Arbre del Gos, Saler and La Garrofera. The length of action is 7,100 meters of beach between the last breakwater of Pinedo and Gola de Pujol. The average width of dry beach recovery is about 50 meters, with the recovery in the area closest to Pinedo being 80 meters of beach. The total area of the recovered beach will be 360,000 square meters.
