Several drones attacked Kyiv on Thursday night, subjecting residents to spasms of gunfire and explosions in the fourth attack on the capital in as many days.

The authorities have explained that at least one drone has been shot down after anti-aircraft units went into action during the raid, which began shortly after 8:00 p.m.

For his part, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, has spoken of "two impacts of downed drones".

"During the last air alert, an unmanned aerial vehicle was detected over Kiev. The object was shot down by air defense forces," added the head of Kyiv's military administration, Serhiy Popko, on Telegram.

Popko has said a fire has been brought under control in a building where the drone was shot down in the Solomyanskyi district, west of the city center. Likewise, he has stated that no injuries have been reported.

A small fire has also broken out in the Pechersk district to the east. Reuters witnesses have heard gunshots and repeated louder explosions near the center of town.

Local authorities had declared an alert for the capital and its surroundings. Residents who had gone to the bomb shelters have said the drones have arrived faster than usual.

A witness has explained that he has seen a drone fall in an area near the Dynamo football stadium and the banks of the Dnipro river, on the outskirts of the center of the Ukrainian capital.
