A mother and her daughter die in a fire in Lugo

A 77-year-old woman and her 50-year-old daughter died in a fire that broke out this afternoon in a four-story building in the Lugo municipality of O Valadouro.

According to the information provided to EFE by the emergency services, the daughter died in the building itself, while the mother, along with the father, a 79-year-old man, was transferred to the Public Hospital of A Mariña, in Burela, where his death has finally been confirmed.

The Barreiros Firefighters managed to rescue two people from the 4th floor of the building through the façade of the building with their high-rise vehicle, but despite the attempts of health professionals, they only managed to stabilize one of them. They couldn't do anything to save the other's life.

The building had to be evacuated and, according to the assessment of firefighting services professionals, residents will not be able to return to their homes for a few days, due to the damage caused by the fire.

Everything seems to indicate, as reported by Emerxencias de Galicia, that the fire started in a room of the house on the first floor, which burned in its entirety. In fact, it was completely affected by the gases and smoke caused by the fire.

The impact caused by the flames caused a window that connected to the building's light courtyard to burst, which caused the glass to break in the other homes, including the upper floors, which were also affected by smoke and fire. The high temperatures.

Civil Guard agents are now working to clarify the causes of the fire.

An extensive device was launched as soon as the call was received on 112 Galicia, at 2:45 p.m. this afternoon. All of them reported that they saw smoke coming out of the one-story gallery of a four-story building, located on Avenida de la Diputación, in Ferreira, in the Lugo town hall of O Valadouro.

They also added that there were people on the balconies asking for help.

With these data, 112 Galicia immediately informed the Barreiros Fire Department and the Galicia Health Emergency Service-061, which sent several ambulances to the point. In the same way, the managers of 112 brought the facts to the attention of the Civil Guard, the GES of Cervo and the members of the Civil Protection Volunteer Group of the town.

After informing the City Council staff and confirming the complexity of the situation, the Viveiro Firefighters were also informed, who, although they immediately traveled to the scene, their intervention was not necessary.

Finally, the staff of the Galicia Health Emergency Service-061 confirmed to the 112 managers the death of one person, a 77-year-old woman, and the transfer of two others, one of them to the A Mariña Hospital and the other to the Burela PAC.

Sources from the Civil Guard have confirmed to EFE that the investigation to clarify the causes of the fire is ongoing and, at least for the moment, all hypotheses are open.
