The Civil Guard has arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting and detaining a pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago, whom he allegedly attacked after offering her to rest at her house when he could not find a free shelter.
According to the Armed Institute, the accused, 48 years old, was arrested in Nájera (La Rioja) and is accused of the crimes of sexual assault and illegal detention.
The victim is a 24-year-old girl of German origin, who was walking the Jacobean Route of the Camino de Santiago. At the end of a stage and not finding a place to spend the night, the aggressor offered him her house to rest. Once at the house, he held her against her will and sexually assaulted her.
The action for which this individual has been arrested began after the victim reported to the agents that she had been held in a home and sexually assaulted.
The young woman stated that she was in Spain doing the Camino de Santiago on foot, that after finishing the stage she was carrying out she did not find a free place to spend the night in the shelters. After that, she asked a man where she was following because she was disoriented.
The man told him that he could show him and accompany him a few meters, offering him his home to rest and gain strength before setting off. The victim accepted and once inside the building, the aggressor held the pilgrim against her will, then held her tightly and sexually assaulted her with touches and attempts to kiss her, although finally the victim was able to shout the alert and flee. of the place.
The seriousness of the events motivated the deployment of a large device in the town of Nájera that allowed the agents to arrest, just a few hours after the events, the alleged perpetrator.
The detainee, along with the procedures carried out, was placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, which ordered his release with charges, while he was warned of the legal obligation to appear in court when summoned to do so.
