A 50-year-old man and his 14-year-old son died early this Friday in Ateca (province of Zaragoza) as a result of a fire in the single-family home they lived in.

112 received a fire warning at 7:25 in the morning, and firefighters from the Calatayud and La Almunia parks immediately traveled there. Upon arrival, the Civil Guard and the Local Police had already removed the body of one of the victims from the property. The other was also found deceased.

According to official sources, the fire originated at the entrance of the house, a single-family home located on Paseo del Prado, on the outskirts of the town. The flames have destroyed the ground floor and have already been put out, although firefighters from the provincial council have maintained a checkpoint in case the fire reignites.

At the moment, the causes of the fire are unknown and an investigation has been opened to clarify them.

For its part, the town's City Council has declared three days of official mourning. This was communicated to Efe by the mayor, Ramón Cristóbal, who pointed out that the event was a "hard blow" that has generated a great commotion in a small town where everyone knows each other.

At the institute where the minor was studying, a minute of silence was observed for the sad event while the Ateca soccer teams have suspended the games scheduled for this weekend.
