A group of Futuro Vegetal activists cut access to MercaMadrid

Activists from the Futuro Vegetal organization staged a new protest action on Tuesday with the cut off of the access road to MercaMadrid, causing traffic jams on the M40. The members of Futuro Vegetal carried a banner that read "Sorry for the inconvenience. We continue to demand a better world."

Futuro Vegetal had already carried out two similar actions, one in the operation out of last Christmas, on December 23, and another in the return operation of Easter on April 10. This group has also carried out other protests such as sticking to the paintings of Las Majas by Velázquez or the lectern of the Congress of Deputies and the sabotage of the largest macro-slaughterhouse in the Spanish state.

The environmental organization calls for the government to divert livestock subsidies to plant-based and socially responsible projects. "We are here because we are terrified; the passivity of governments and corporations in the face of the climate crisis leads us to food insecurity due to the loss of crops and drinking water," explained a member of Futuro Vegetal.

He has also stated that "livestock is one of the main industries emitting greenhouse gases, especially methane. According to the FAO and the UN Panel of Experts on Climate Change (IPCC), curbing the impact of livestock is key to stop and mitigate the Climate Emergency."

From Futuro Vegetal they hope that this will help the Executive to finally implement forceful measures that serve to face the seriousness of the crisis, tending measures aimed at a transition of the food system that protects the rural world, the environment and animals.
