A girl, named Adhara, was born this afternoon at the Madrid-Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station thanks to the help of agents from the National Police and members of the Samur-Civil Protection who assisted the mother during that hasty birth.

The birth occurred around 2:30 p.m. this Monday. A 23-year-old woman, 37 weeks pregnant, who was with her partner, went into labor outside a fast food restaurant at the station, as she was shortly taking a train.

The agents of the National Police Mobile Brigade who were in the area carrying out security tasks quickly approached the place, who provided the first assistance following telephone instructions from Samur-Protection, since they could see how the baby's head appeared.

The police have requested several coats from passers-by at the station to place them as a mattress on the floor. In addition, one of them had to free the little girl from the umbilical cord that she had wrapped around her neck twice, the Madrid Police Headquarters said in a statement.

When the paramedics arrived, the woman had already given birth. The health workers have already cut the umbilical cord in the ambulance, performing a complete examination on the little girl, covering the mother and baby and making skin-to-skin contact. Both, in perfect condition, have been taken by ambulance to the hospital, where they are recovering from childbirth.

Municipal Police officers have accompanied the medical convoy so that the transfer is carried out in the best possible conditions, added a Madrid Emergency spokeswoman.
