A fire in a machine room of the BonÀrea meat complex in Guissona (Lleida) has caused an ammonia leak this Friday in which a company worker has been slightly injured, according to the Generalitat Fire Brigade, Civil Protection and the company. The worker has been taken care of at the CAP de Guissona.

The warning occurred at 9:12 and activated the PLASEQCAT alert due to a chemical accident.

The fire, which was put out by company personnel and the Generalitat Fire Brigade, occurred in an isolated machine room, near some workshops at around nine in the morning.

The BonÀrea Agrupa workers, around twenty, who participated in the extinguishing, left when the firefighters arrived and considered the leak under control at 10:30 am.

Two units of the Catalan Medical Emergency System, thirteen fire brigade units with the support of GRIT, the technological risk unit, have moved to the meat plant.

The company has assured in a statement that "all productive areas, and where there are almost all workers, have not been affected at any time and it has not been necessary to carry out any evacuation."
