The National Police have arrested a couple for the crime of abandoning minors after finding their daughters, aged 6 and 8, half-naked in a supermarket in Palencia buying food. The parents had the girls living in absolutely unsanitary conditions and had not taken them to school since mid-January.

Last Saturday morning, the person in charge of a supermarket in the capital alerted the National Police that two minors, dirty and half-naked, were in the establishment to buy food, as reported by the Government Subdelegation.

Next, a patrol went to the scene, where the girls were already being cared for by local employees. Once their state of dirt, semi-nakedness and abandonment was confirmed, they were taken to the police station, where they were provided with warm clothing.

After locating his home, the agents went to the residence, where they were able to verify that it was in a deplorable state, with garbage and dirt everywhere. As the Scientific Police observed in a technical police inspection, the dirt had caused the appearance of insects.

Inside the house was the girls' father, who had sent them in those conditions to the supermarket to buy food. Now, after being arrested for the crime of child abandonment, he was released for medical needs. Even so, he was informed of his obligation to appear before the judicial authority and of the obligation to communicate any change of address.

On the other hand, the mother of the minors, who was out of the city, was arrested upon her return on the afternoon of last Sunday the 11th and was also placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, which ordered her release with charges.

The minors, once their good health has been recognized and accredited by the Medical Services of the Emergency Service of the Río Carrión Hospital, are in charge of the Social Services.
