It's now official: HyperOS has arrived on Xiaomi devices to stay. This new layer of customization, which you can now download and install on your mobile, means the disappearance of MIUI, the operating system that the Chinese company's phones and its sub-brands, such as Redmi or POCO, have been using.
In reality, the MIUI replacement is a customization layer that uses an operating system created by Android ―for all types of devices, including those that use the Internet of Things (IoT)―. Among its HyperOS features revealed at a presentation event on October 31 in China, its faster speed for loading third-party applications (15% more) and the lower storage space required stand out. The mobile system firmware occupies 8.75 GB.
HyperOS also offers significant changes compared to MIUI 14, as it adopts a minimalist aesthetic in elements such as the menu, without buttons or unnecessary surcharges. There will also be changes in the notifications and settings panel and users will enjoy a high degree of customization of backgrounds, widgets or applications such as the clock or calendar.
Xiaomi has announced that its new interface will come pre-installed on the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro, which it will reach first. Afterwards, almost all of the brand's mobile phones will be automatically updated to adopt this new layer of customization progressively, first the most recent models and, finally, it will reach the oldest ones. Mobile phones in the Redmi range, even those that the company launched a few years ago, will also have the option to update to HyperOS.
There are not that many POCOs that will update to HyperOS, however, the list does include some of the most popular models.
