The Game Awards 2023 will take place early this Friday at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles (California). The gala considered "the Oscars of video games" rewards the best titles of the year, but also serves companies to publicize their new projects. The last edition had an audience of 103 million viewers, according to its organizers.
The event will start at 1:30 (Spanish peninsular time) and can be followed through the official channels of The Game Awards on YouTube, Twitch, Steam and X. Also through the following video.
Last year's big winner was Elden Ring. The ambitious action and role-playing game developed by the Japanese studio From Software won four statuettes. In addition to the so-called GOTY (Game of the Year), it also won the awards for best direction, best art direction and best role-playing game.
This 2023 the two big favorites to win the award for best game of the year are Baldur's Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, we should not lose track of the other four candidates (Alan Wake 2, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder), since they are excellent titles in a year that has been overwhelming in regarding quality releases.
Although it may seem that The Game Awards have changed location this year, the truth is that they are repeating themselves in the same venue as always, the one previously known as Nokia Theater or Microsoft Theater, which as of last July has been renamed Peacock Theater and is where the Emmys are also held.
The Game Awards is a gala organized by journalist and event producer Geoff Keighley since 2014, so this year marks its tenth edition. Due to the good reception it has had from video game companies, but also to its large audience numbers, they have become the most popular awards in the electronic entertainment sector.
