Take these precautions if you have to send your ID online

There are many procedures on the internet for which you can request our National Identity Document (DNI). For example, to stay in a hotel, to request financing such as a mortgage or the purchase of a vehicle, for the rental papers for a home, to register for certain services or platforms, to enroll in training courses, verify our of age, etc.

We often send personal information on the Internet without being aware of the risks that this could entail. When we share private documents, we lose control over them and they could end up in the wrong hands and be used for fraudulent purposes. The National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) warns of the risks of sharing private documents online without protection mechanisms and exposes certain security measures that we must adopt to protect our documents.

According to INCIBE, you could be a victim of identity theft if your information ends up in the hands of cybercriminals, who would commit crimes in our name with all the problems that entails. They also highlight that sending private documents to unknown websites increases the risk of loss of control and misuse.

On the other hand, we must know that during shipping there is a risk that attackers may intercept our private information through vulnerabilities in the servers and use it fraudulently. Likewise, poor configuration on social networks and the overexposure of information can also expose our personal and sensitive data to unwanted people, without us being aware of it. Finally, if you store your information in the cloud, it could be shared incorrectly if you are not careful.
