Abylight Studios has just published the final version of One Military Camp, a strategy and management game for PC that allows users to build and run a military camp. Although this title has been available since the beginning of March in early access, since yesterday it has had its most complete edition on Steam and in the Epic Games Store.
Build all kinds of facilities, recruit and train soldiers, take care of logistics, ensure the health and happiness of the staff... In this simulator there are many tasks that the player must supervise, and this is one of its keys; but the tone is also important, and that is that, despite its military and war theme, the game stands out for its sense of humor.
One Military Camp is one of the most ambitious projects in the almost twenty-year history of this studio located in the Sagrera neighborhood of Barcelona. At the peak of its development –some of which have taken place in the midst of a pandemic– its team has reached up to 25 people. This figure reflects the volume of a production that wants to match other international benchmarks in the genre, such as Two Point Hospital, from the British Two Point Studios.
In fact, it is not the first management game created by Abylight. In 2021 they published Prison Tycoon, a prison simulator that undoubtedly should have served as a reference point on which to build and go one step further. In fact, games of this style are not the most common among Spanish development studios, so your proposal is welcome not only because of the intrinsic quality of the title, but also because it offers a differentiating element among the range of games developed in our country.
The dynamics of One Military Camp is interesting thanks to the very theme of the game, which is that, in addition to managing the proper functioning of the camp, the objective is to achieve victory against the troops of an evil invading army. To achieve this, the player must train the best soldiers in an endless number of specialties, but this is not possible if they have not previously built adequate facilities.
From the barracks and the canteen to training grounds and a hospital; The new Abylight game offers management enthusiasts a large number of different buildings and units, to which must be added all the logistical infrastructure, such as supplies or energy. It is just as important to respond to all the needs of soldiers and personnel, as it is to ensure that the placement of each element makes the whole work efficiently and harmoniously.
The number of options that the game puts on the table would be overwhelming if the title didn't have a tutorial that was in charge of guiding the player during the first missions. The person responsible for this is Hawkins, a veteran drill sergeant who loves the smell of sweat in the morning and who – without taking the situation too seriously – is in charge of setting the player straight through some tasks that in the campaign mode teach them the basic operation of the game.
For players who prefer the freedom to create their own game, on a map of their choice and with their own rules, sandbox mode is available. It is one of the novelties that One Milary Camp has been receiving in recent months and that is added to the introduction of new scenarios, compatibility with Steamdeck or accessibility options, among other features. All of them are part of a game that has just reached its version 1.0 and that, without a doubt, is a proposal to take into account for fans of management and strategy.
