A new Windows focused on AI could arrive in 2024

Microsoft is preparing the launch of a new version of Windows in 2024. After the resignation of the former CEO, Panos Panay, last October, a new team would be working on the next code update of the operating system, with the name Hudson Valley . According to an article on the specialized website Windows Central, artificial intelligence would take on a special role within the new Windows functionalities.

In this way, Microsoft would return to the trend of annually releasing the main versions of Windows, after the triennial renewals of the operating system under the leadership of Panos Panay. Apparently, Microsoft would have set a roadmap for Hudson Valley to be available on all Windows computers by the last quarter of 2024.

We still don't know if Hudson Valley will finally take the name Windows 12. What we can see is that next-generation artificial intelligence experiences will be integrated into this operating system and some of them will require hardware with network processing units (NPU). to work.

One of the most characteristic new features would be the introduction of an advanced 'Copilot' (formerly Bing Chat) in the Windows Shell interface. This search engine would constantly work in the background and its functions would be to optimize searches, detect and drive workflows, and understand contexts, among others.

This new Windows would also include a 'history' function, which will allow users to go back in time through all the applications and websites that Copilot has memorized. In addition, this search engine could filter the answers according to specific criteria. Thus, the user could search and reproduce all the times a term has appeared on their screen.

The truth is that artificial intelligence has forever changed the way we communicate with machines. Everything indicates that the new Windows search engine will have the ability to recognize natural language and associate it with files and documents that the user has previously viewed or opened. From then on, the startup search engine could interpret commands such as “look for the attachment that Maria sent me last week” and locate it.

In the graphic part, thanks to AI the new Windows could have a “super resolution” to improve the quality of video and games. The effectiveness of Live Captions, Microsoft's subtitle generator, would also be substantially increased, as it would have the ability to translate a video or call into multiple languages in real time.

There are rumors surrounding the creation of a creator area in the start menu and File Explorer with shortcuts to the programs in the Microsoft 365 suite (Designer, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). There is also talk of features related to energy savings and efficiency, specifically the ability to charge the device when Windows detects that the power comes from renewable sources.
