The tears of Halley's comet in Puig-agut

In La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos we can see these images of the abundant shower of aquarid stars in Manlleu, with the Puig-agut sanctuary as the co-star.

This is one of the most notable events of spring, with the Eta Aquarids, also known as the Tears of Halley's Comet, featuring main guests.

The Eta Aquarids are fragments released from Halley's Comet, which crosses the skies around the world during the fifth month of each year.

On this occasion, it was expected to see up to 85 of these bright chunky objects. The spectacle of this meteor shower could be seen on the night of Sunday the 5th at 9:00 p.m. (Spanish peninsular time).

In these images we can relive it within the framework of the Puig-agut sanctuary, which was the first temple of its kind in Spain to be dedicated to the Sacred Heart.

Its construction was promoted at the end of the 19th century by Ramón Madirolas y Codina, an innovative farmer who promoted it from the Faro de Puig-agut magazine.

The direction of the work was carried out by the architect August Font y Carreras, who used a neo-Gothic style with some Romanesque and even neoclassical facets, inspired by the French basilica of Tarbes.
